AP Theme + Guiding Questions
My theme for this portfolio is the importance of female friendships in the lives of adolescent girls. Throughout my process, my guiding questions developed from questions like "How can I depict female joy?" to questions like "What role do friendships play in moments of hardship?". I've stayed consistent with my use of oil paint, graphite, and colored pencil and the use of a consistent color palate, focusing on pinks, purples, reds, and blues. I also use the motifs of jewelry, shoes, and lacy clothing to show how stereotypically frivolous, feminine aspects can actually be powerful points of connection for women. In all, my goal is to show the complexity and importance of female friendships and how inexplicably important they are to girl's development.
